Mitigating Exposure

The CDC has stated SuperBugs are continuing to make their presence known in the workplace.  Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus “MRSA skin infections can now occur in any workplace. Some workplace settings have factors that make it easier for MRSA to be transmitted. These factors, referred to as the 5 C’s, are as follows: Crowding, frequent skin-to-skin Contact, Compromised skin (i.e., cuts or abrasions), Contaminated items and surfaces, and lack of Cleanliness.

The norovirus has been described as the perfect human pathogen and is the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis in the United States. Symptoms include projectile vomiting and severe diarrhea.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); norovirus causes an estimated 23 million illnesses in America and contributes to 56,000-71,000 hospitalizations and 570-800 deaths each year.  Norovirus can survive on surfaces for weeks – in some cases, months – and the virus remains contagious throughout its survival cycle.

ASTEW: the steppingstone for the pursuit of productivity and quality through the reduction of presenteeism byway of sustainability.

200 miles/Hr. 10 minute hang time

The common cold is the most frequently occurring illness in the human race. The common cold is responsible for 75-100 million physician visits annually. The cost to the American economy is estimated as high as $40, Billion per year.
As Americans, we take great pride in not missing work due to the common cold. This tenacity has resulted in reduced absenteeism rates; subsequently, studies now show this same tenacity is responsible for the common cold producing $1,576.00 productivity losses per occurrence.

15 Times/Hr

Science tells us that every time you touch a surface, you transfer 30 to 60 percent of the contaminates on that surface to your hands.  Science also tells us that the average person will touch their face an average of 15 times an hour.  Transferring contaminates from your hands to your mouth, nose, eyes, ears, is an effective way to contract an illness or trigger an allergic reaction.

Looking To The Past To Guide The Future.

In the past businesses would have part-time positions available for employees’ children and relatives. Human Resource departments at that time known as Personnel departments utilized these positions to identify future talent. One area of part-time service availability was consistently the environmental service department. Personnel Directors believed this department, which is highly tasked oriented, provided a solid sense of the potential recruit’s work-ethic. Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, was known for many things; among those things was his dislike of the use of subcontractors. In the mid-1980s and throughout the last 30/35 years, outsourcing has become a mainstay of American business structure, and custodial service outsourcing became a business norm for all types of American industries. We advocate for revisiting the past as a way to stimulate recruitment for the future.

Reduce Healthcare Cost

As a companion to your wellness program, our ASTEW Matrix expands the focus of your wellnness program from just improving the health of the individual. Too preventing the spread of illness throughout the workplace community, and extending this practice to participating employees’ homes preventing infection in the first place. Last year’s flu season (2017-2018) the CDC reported that 48.8 million people in the U.S. where stricken with the flu. Last year’s flu season resulted in nearly half 22.7 million people to seek medical intervention with the average direct medical cost of the intervention being $946.00 per person. Americans spend over $2.9 billion on over the counter medication for the treatment of the common cold. More than $400 million on prescription medication for symptom relief and a staggering $1.1 billion on antibiotics prescription drugs that do not affect the viral-based illness we know as the common cold. Add to this an estimated 17 billion in hospital and doctor visits, and the adage an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure takes on new meaning.
